For the Nervous Singer
"You've been told you can't sing, or you've held back for years out of fear. You're not alone — and you can find your voice."

I've been teaching singing for over 17 years, with lessons designed especially for beginners and intermediate singers who want to build confidence, improve technique, and enjoy the powerful mental-health benefits singing brings.

For most of my students, singing is more than a hobby — it's therapy, release, and personal growth rolled into one.

What to Expect

Tailored to your voice, built on encouragement

No grand audition, no music theory test. Just a clear path from "I'm nervous" to "I can't wait for my lesson."

Tailored to your voice

Every lesson starts with breathing and vocal warm-ups that loosen tension and gently build range — then moves to songs you actually love, because nothing motivates more than music that moves you.

Built on encouragement

You'll never be pushed to do something you're not ready for. My teaching style is motivational and grounded in helping you feel safe enough to explore your voice without fear of judgement.

FAQs

Straight answers, no mumbo jumbo.

Do I need natural talent to learn to sing?
No. In nearly two decades of teaching, only a handful of students turned out to be genuinely unable to sing. Some people pick it up faster because of natural ability, others need more practice — but almost everyone improves with consistent work. I've seen complete beginners overtake naturally gifted singers simply because they put the hours in.
Will you teach me all the technical stuff — larynx position, vocal cords, diaphragm?
Not in the way most singing teachers do. I believe singing is roughly 80% mental and 20% physical, so my lessons focus on mindset, breathing, and connecting to the song rather than textbook anatomy. You don't need to understand how an engine works to drive a car — the same applies here.
What's the M.S.L. approach, exactly?
It's the method I've developed over years of teaching — built on getting you out of your comfort zone quickly, establishing your real range through scales and exercises, then applying that to songs you actually love. It's less about theory and more about doing — "ready, fire, aim" rather than overthinking before you start.
I'm nervous and have never sung in front of anyone — is that normal?
Completely normal, and probably the most common starting point for my students. Confidence and belief are at the heart of becoming a better singer — often more important than raw ability. My job in the first lesson is to help you get comfortable being uncomfortable, in a safe, judgement-free space.
Can singing lessons really help with mental health?
Yes — this is something I've seen consistently over the years, including through volunteering at a drug rehabilitation centre. The majority of my long-term students come not to perform professionally, but for the mental and emotional benefits singing brings. The confidence and release it offers can carry over into other areas of life.
Is there an age limit?
Not at all. I teach students from age 9 through to their seventies — including complete beginners taking up singing for the first time after retirement. It's genuinely never too late to start.
Do you teach piano too?
Yes — beginner-friendly piano lessons designed specifically for singers who want to accompany themselves. With a simplified, singer-focused approach, many students learn to play within 3 to 6 months.
How often should I take lessons?
At minimum, twice a month — that's enough to maintain momentum and keep building on each session. Weekly lessons are ideal if you want to progress faster or have a specific goal in mind. The frequency really depends on what you want to achieve, and we can work that out together.
What if I just want to drop in occasionally?
Honestly? I'm probably not the right teacher for you — and I'd rather be upfront about that than take your money. What drives me is seeing students grow, and real growth requires consistency. Without it, we'd essentially be starting from scratch each time. If you're serious about improving, even twice a month makes a meaningful difference. If you're not sure yet, book a free taster session and we can talk it through.
